Dart points are the steel tips at the front of your steel tip dart. They decide how firmly your dart sits in the sisal, how much grip your fingers have at the moment of release, and where the weight of your dart sits. On this page you will find dart points in lengths from 26 to 45 mm, with and without grip, for standard barrels and for the common interchangeable systems. All points in this category are made for steel tip darts and are not suitable for soft tip darts.
There are two types. Standard dart points are pressed into the barrel and are replaced with a repointer. That takes a little more work, but the range is large and the points are inexpensive.
Interchangeable points you screw in and out yourself, without tools or with the tool supplied. That lets you try a different length, grip or colour within seconds, without having your barrel repointed. You will find them per system, from Target Swiss Points and Harrows Quick Points to Winmau Switch Points, Shot Turbo Points, Bull’s Convertible Points and Mission R2.5 Rapid Points.
The length of your point changes two things: the balance of the dart and the space between your barrel and the board. A longer point shifts a little more weight forward and holds the barrel further away from the board, which helps if you group tightly and your darts get in each other’s way. A shorter point moves the weight backwards and gives a more compact whole. If you want to experiment, change one step at a time (from 30 to 35 mm, for example) and keep the rest of your setup the same. Otherwise you will not know which change made the difference.
Points become blunt and smooth from throwing, which gives them less grip in the sisal and leads to more bounce-outs. A sharpening stone removes the burrs and restores a light roughness. Razor sharp is not the goal: a point that is too sharp or burred damages the bristles of your dartboard. If a point is bent, shortened or truly worn out, replacing it is the better option. On standard points you do that with a repointer; on interchangeable points you simply screw in a new one.
